Ceftriaxone Degradation in the Presence of Sodium Halides Investigated by Electrochemical Methods Assisted by UV-Vis Spectrophotometry

The electrochemical stability of ceftriaxone (CFTX), belonging to the third generation cephalosporin antibiotics, was studied by measurements recorded on a platinum electrode (Pt) in aqueous solutions containing sodium halides. behavior investigated cyclic voltammetry (CV) and constant current density electrolysis assisted UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Cyclic highlighted that addition CFTX halide leads significant changes hysteresis characteristics due specific interactions with active species from electrolytes, as well surface. After CV, when an exterior electric stimulus short time (40 s) applied, spectra illustrated is stable presence F− ions, it electro(degraded/transformed) Cl− Br− ions interacts instantly I− species. Electrolysis at confirms results obtained voltammetry, showing (i) fluoride gradually decomposes, but not completely, about 60 min, without identifying reaction product; (ii) chloride bromide determine almost complete electro(degradation/transformation) 10 5 respectively, completion electro-transformation after 30 respectively; (iii) instantaneous between iodide occurred.
